Communication
Communication is the cornerstone of any coach/athlete relationship. The more communication, the better your results will be. You will have unlimited contact via WhatsApp and Training Peaks and the opportunity for biweekly calls. I love talking running, so let's talk running!
Science backed approach
I will employ the latest science to ensure that you are performing effective training. If you are interested in the science, I am happy to geek out on this with you.
Race craft and execution
Much of doing well at a race comes down to reducing mistakes and managing your effort. After making many mistakes myself, I will endeavour to save you that pain. Whether you're chasing the cutoffs or fighting for the podium, we will get you race ready.
Establishing routine
Improving your running and performance is not just about doing the training. Most of your regular routines and habits will have some sort of effect on your mood, energy levels and hormones. Coaching is a great opportunity to be made aware of these blind spots ('I suppose it does make sense that I don't sleep so well after having five coffees today'.
Race craft and execution
If you're looking for a coach to berate you and call you names when you don't perform a workout, you've come to the wrong place. We'll be more focused on the carrot than the stick. Running is much better when you're doing it for the right reasons.
Specificity
I will do whatever I can to help you prepare specifically for your next running challenge. If you're preparing for a mountain race in a pan flat city, we will find ways to get you ready.
Experience
Having completed more than thirty ultramarathons, and many more sub-ultra races, I have gained a great deal of knowledge and experience that comes from getting through these tough events. It is my aim to share this knowledge with you.
Running nutrition
Though I am not a nutritionist, I know quite a bit about what goes into good race nutrition plans and what can scupper those plans. After all, I've made many of these mistakes...several times! It's all about eventually learning from those mistakes.
